Opeyemi Adeniye

Mechanical Engineer-in-Training (EIT)

Municipal Engineer-in-Training at CBCL Limited, and a compulsive builder: if I get curious about how something works, I usually end up making one.

About

Engineering across disciplines

I'm a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Memorial University (Class of 2025, 3.93 GPA) now working as a Municipal Engineer-in-Training at CBCL Limited in Halifax, where I design pump stations and water, wastewater, stormwater, and treatment-plant infrastructure for communities across Atlantic Canada.

My co-op path ran through ExxonMobil, Equinor, EXMAR Offshore, and Vale, spanning wells engineering, project controls, and underground mining operations. Along the way I've done CFD on airfoils, FEA on aircraft wings, instrumentation design for wind tunnels, and robotics modelling in MATLAB.

Outside work, I play piano at church and live events, produce music, and build AI-powered mobile apps and web tools. I've also run a hands-on phone repair business for six years. I'm drawn to problems that reward first-principles analysis over intuition.

Experience

Where I've worked

  1. CBCL Limited

    Halifax, NS · Aug 2025 – Present

    Municipal Engineer-in-Training

    • Support municipal water, wastewater, stormwater, and treatment-plant projects for communities across Atlantic Canada — the infrastructure people rely on without thinking about it
    • Design pump stations end to end: sizing the pumps and piping, laying out the station, and coordinating the civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical inputs into one buildable design. This has ranged from stations for Halifax Water serving the greater Halifax region to one taken independently from concept through proposal
    • Develop the design and produce the AutoCAD and Civil 3D drawing sets that document it
    • Run the hydraulic and pump-system calculations and analysis behind these designs, including support for an active pump-station upgrade in Gander, NL, keeping flows within spec while using energy efficiently
  2. EXMAR Offshore

    Houston, TX · Aug – Dec 2024

    Project Engineering Intern

    • Ran project scheduling, planning, and document control in Primavera P6 and P-EX, keeping every project phase aligned with its timeline
    • Supported resource allocation and workforce planning, tracking labour hours against what each project actually needed
    • Prepared the client-facing progress reports on milestones, budget, and risk that kept stakeholders clear on where things stood
  3. Equinor

    St. John's, NL · Jan – Apr 2024

    Drilling & Wells Engineering Intern

    • Produced time and cost estimates for the Bay du Nord project, feeding directly into planning and budgeting decisions
    • Automated approval workflows in Power Apps, cutting delays from the process and speeding up day-to-day decisions
    • Supported well completion design across casing, tubing, packers, and perforation strategy, and presented findings to faculty and industry
  4. ExxonMobil

    St. John's, NL · May – Sept 2023

    Wells Engineering Intern

    • Ran torque-and-drag analysis to flag well problems before they turned into costly downtime
    • Evaluated CRA tubular performance and turned the results into operational recommendations
    • Handled hydraulic calculations for drilling-fluid optimization and cuttings transport, and built retrospective models from historical well data to guide future operations
  5. Vale

    Labrador · Sept – Dec 2022

    Underground Operations Engineering Intern

    • Helped plan underground mine layouts, designing tunnel, shaft, and ventilation systems to keep deep sections safe and workable
    • Worked with site managers and supervisors on long- and short-term scheduling
    • Carried out safety inspections and operational reporting
  6. Memorial University — Student Design Hub

    St. John's, NL · Feb – May 2022

    Design Hub Engineering Intern

    • Prototyped student designs with 3D printers and CNC machines, turning concepts into functional models for testing
    • Ran material analysis and selection, balancing strength, cost, and sustainability
    • Built Excel-macro tools to track student and team interactions with the Design Hub

Engineering

RC Model Airplane — Flight Competition

Designed, analyzed, and built a remote-controlled aircraft that took off, flew stably, and carried a 0.5 payload fraction in a flight competition.

  • Iterated from a symmetric NACA 0012 to a NACA 4412 airfoil after flight testing showed insufficient lift
  • Ran CFD on the airfoil in ANSYS Fluent and FEA on the wing structure in Abaqus
  • Verified stability and mass distribution in XFLR5 before the final build

Boeing 777-300ER Wing — Structural FEA

Finite element analysis of the 777-300ER fixed wing under take-off, cruise, landing, and emergency-landing load cases, using the RAE2822 supercritical airfoil.

  • Modelled wing geometry, material properties, boundary conditions, and mesh in Abaqus
  • Found peak deflection and stress during emergency landing, consistent with theoretical predictions
  • Performed an error analysis explaining discrepancies from modelling simplifications

Engineering

Wind Tunnel Lift–Drag Measurement System

Designed a sensor and force-balance system to characterize a 3D-printed model aircraft in the MUN wind tunnel — wind velocity, lift, drag, and angle of attack.

  • Selected a hot-wire velocity transmitter (±0.508 m/s) and single-point load cells (±1 N lift, ±0.6 N drag)
  • Designed a custom external force balance and full electrical schematics around an NI 9219 DAQ
  • Propagated uncertainty through lift and drag coefficient calculations

Engineering

Robotic Knee — Gait Analysis

Modelled a human-inspired robotic knee as a four-bar linkage and analyzed its motion and joint forces through a full gait cycle.

  • Designed the four-bar knee linkage in SolidWorks and imported it into MATLAB Simscape
  • Used forward kinematics to compute prismatic joint (muscle) motion from gait-cycle angles
  • Used inverse dynamics to compute the muscle force required across the gait cycle

Load-Optimized Lightweight Bracket

Designed a bracket to carry a 100 lbf load at minimum weight, using generative design and FEA to drive the geometry.

  • Iterated the design with generative design and static/dynamic FEA in SolidWorks and Fusion 360
  • Final part weighed just 32 grams
  • Survived 111 lbf in physical testing — 11% over the design requirement
